The Third Season
Why were dopey, Junior the baby allosaurus, and the Zarn, entirely absent from season three.
shareThe Third Season story editor and writers ignored the "writer's bible" for the series as established by David Gerrold as well as a good deal of the continuity established in the first two seasons. Even as a kid I was disappointed to not get any more episodes involving the Zarn, who I thought was one of the most intriguing characters. Watching the Third Season as an adult, I'm surprised when there actually are references to previous seasons (the statue of the Civil War soldier in Medusa's garden, for instance).
shareThe real question is – what would David Gerrold et al have done for a third season? They stated clearly that while Altrusians/Sleestak built the LOTL, the episode Musician strongly implies humans had something to do with it in a big way. This plot threat probably would have been in season 3.
Personally I treat the actual third season as a sleestak-smoke induced hallucination which never happened, like Matrix Sequels, or any movies after Alien & Aliens.
The way I heard it someone was replaced by somebody who had never seen the series. You make sense of that one.
