TO all Harry O fans out there. Start an internet campaign to release the series on DVD. I would but I'm not sure where or how to start. Fans can make it happen if they really care. I hope that they do. I ask network executives to do this as soon as possible. Will someone who knows how PLEASE pick up the banner? Thank You [email protected]
I totally agree Harry O should be on DVD. His battles with Anthony Zerbe, drinking his coffee...classic. Best line in a cop show, voiceover: "I used to think a woman was like a bus. There'll be another one in 10 minutes."
Always loved it. Did it inspire "The Rockford Files"? Lone P.I., living by the beach, etc. Definitely prefer it to the Garner show, much more believable and real life-like character (hampered by bullet stuck in body, likes to drink, takes the bus), perfectly portrayed by Janssen. We need an official DVD release of this gem pronto.
Recently rewatched the pilots and the entire two seasons of episodes in a marathon weekend. A long time goal realized and I feel every moment was spent just as I should have. Confirmed my opinion that was one of the great television series of all time and that David was born to play the role of Harry Orwell.
This weekend I've been re-watching the episodes to appreciate the acting, writing, cinematography all over again.
It's just exciting to recall the way we were then.
Note. People have noted that Harry was a fairly morose character, but I'm discovering moments when there is some true joy/pleasure shining in the man's eyes. The series does remind me of some film noir (which I love by the way). Has anyone noted how the bright sunshiny California climate often comes across as sad?
I also loved the show and used to stay up late night in 1980 and watch reruns on CBS. Would love to have the series on dvd. If anybody can help me,I would be grateful
Warner needs to do this classic justice and let new audiences discover it, because it really is that good. Not merely released quietly without much fanfare in their archive web line, but real DVD. Since it's already all over the place on bootlegs going with simple DVD-R quality makes little sense to me, whereas proper DVD would be the fine art.
Warner's releasing it next year as an archive title, the first pilot too, so they've said. Myself, I'd preferred a normal DVD release for the two series, but hey the dream's coming true and that's the important thing! Anyway, I do recall reading somewhere that popular enough titles (sales-wise) could also be considered for real DVD one day. But who knows, time now to brace ourselves with patience for the arrival of 2012.
I recently purchased the entire Harry O series on DVD. Includes all shows and two pilot movies on 10 discs. Quality good: copied from cable broadcast. Two shows had problems: "froze" during play. And 1 disc was blank.
Can't those holding the rights to this show make it available. I believe I've seen some sites where some TV series are sold individually upon order, thus avoiding a backlog of unsold copies for the supplier. If this true, can't rights holders look into this.
"And the Warner Archive Collection is bringing that second ("real") pilot telefilm home to the fans on May 3rd, with a manufacture-on-demand (MOD) release of Harry O - Smile Jenny, You're Dead. The 90-minute-long production comes on a single disc presented in the original full frame video and English mono audio. Cost is $19.95 SRP. Besides Janssen, there are other notable cast members in this story, but none moreso than future Oscar winner Jodie Foster...who at the time of the filming for this item had not yet done the TV series Paper Moon yet, much less Freaky Friday or Taxi Driver. Look for her as "Liberty Cole" in this show!"
Finally had a chance to watch some of season two. Not a bad transfer, and certainly superior to the bootlegs I've seen. If only there were some extras with this set, it would be perfect.
