it would not have worked, American Psychological Association had only declared homosexuality was not illness in 1975--and show started in 1974.
THe fact that they were not doing episodes 'bashing' GLBT people either in 'the era' which the show was originally supposed to be set in or in that 'current time' (when there still were no anti-discrimination laws in most of America) should be good enough.
