James Evans vs George Jefferson

They had similar lives originally
1. They both grew up in single mother households. James father ran away and Geroge's father died
2. They both had military careers during the Korean War. James in the army Geroge in the Navy
3. They were both hard working African American men.
4.They both had to quit school but at least George to up to eleventh grade rather than just sixth grade.

I wonder why James couldn't be as cleaver as George

reply

George was probably a little smarter than James was as he did at least come close to finishing high school. There was also luck involved. George got a job at a dry cleaners, fell in love with the business. The owner of the place probably took a liking to him and took him under his wing and made him a manager of the store.

reply

But James was a much more dignified man. George was such a buffoon. George was also "lucky" enough to get into the accident and have the insurance settlement.

Annoying the world since 1960!

reply

This. George had a positive life altering event in the accident while James never caught the breaks that George did.

reply

Funnily enough, both were both spin-offs of All in the Family (directly and indirectly, respectively).

reply

James clearly had a bad, defeatist attitude. He also had too many kids. Should have stopped at JJ.

reply

He couldn't stop at JJ. Who could? His next kid turned out to be smoking hot, so that's good.

reply

James certainly was a 'father figure'. George however, well, gotta love George Jefferson because of his wit and charm.

reply

His character was a great father figure and that is the tragedy that is Good Times. Off topic, I know.
