This Show was Ahead of its Time!

And when I say that I am not just referring to the fact that it was ahead of it's time because of it being the first cop show to have a black woman in the lead.

It was really more then that....a lot more.

I was 10 years old when this show came on and I was hooked when I first saw the it on ABC's TV movie of the week. (For those who are not aware, ABC's TV movie of the week made great movies)

Now, being a 10 year old white boy in 1974, I really wasn't aware of a lot of social issues between black and white people.
Honestly, I had no idea that "Get Christie Love!" was even groundbreaking.

All I knew was that this show was cool, the action was awesome, and Teresa Graves was Hot!
Yea, at 10 years old I knew she was hot!

Now, of course there were tons of cop shows before this one, but none of them really combined good action with wise cracking humor and Sexiness before.

And back then as a kid you really never knew of shows being canceled, you would just wait for them to come back on the next season and when they didn't you were heartbroken.

I wish "Get Christie Love!" had done at least 4 or 5 seasons.

Of course after "Get Christie Love!" there were all the legendary shows like "Charlie's Angels" "Starsky and Hutch" and so on.
And all those shows owes a lot of credit I think to "Get Christie Love!"

She did it first, She did it better and she did it all by her self!
No partner, No side kick.

It was all her sugar!

Here is a little taste of "Get Christie Love!"

Actually, CHARLIE'S ANGELS owes a lot more to POLICE WOMAN with Angie Dickinson, which premiered the same week as GET CHRISTIE LOVE except that POLICE WOMAN was actually a big hit.

I liked CHRISTIE LOVE, but it wasn't a success. Nor was DECOY with Beverly Garland or HONEY WEST with Anne Francis, none of which got beyond their first seasons.

It was POLICE WOMAN which changed things and even real life law enforcement significantly.

Valerie from Josie and the Pussycats cartoon was a fine example of Black Woman smartness altho the crazy redhead was the main character Valerie usually was smart enough to save the other members but not smart enough to leave those meddling kids, she and Velma from Scooby Doo should have gotten together for more than just mystery solving but a good old fashion girl on girl action... grrrr-wow!

The OP talks about CHRISITE LOVE like it was some big, influential hit.

I'm glad he liked it as a kid (I kind of did, too) but it totally bombed.

When Aaron Spelling was trying to sell the concept of CHARLIE'S ANGELS to the recalcitrant executives at ABC, he told them: "It will be like POLICE WOMAN times three" and given that the Angie Dickinson series had been #1 in the ratings that summer, that comparison helped encourage them to greenlight the pilot for CHARLIE'S ANGELS which was shot in the fall of 1975.

Nobody mentioned GET CHRISITE LOVE because few people had seen it and it had already been cancelled for months.

In fact, the failure of GET CHRISTIE LOVE may very well have been why ABC was reluctant to sign on to CHARLIE'S ANGELS.
