How popular was Heidi in your country? Share your memories.

I'm curious to see how popular this show was around the world. I grew up in El Salvador and admittedly, I was hooked on it. Couldn't fully admit it to my pals, you know; because it wasn't a macho show like Mazinger ;) Regardless, they eventually admitted they liked it too! It has probably been around 23 years or so since I've seen an episode. I recently saw the intro and closing credits on the site that rhymes with "tube" and I got very sentimental thinking about it. Most of my memories revolve around being at home in my old neighbourhood, with family, watching on our old vaccum tube TV in the living room. My grandfather was a fan of it too, so when we'd go visit him, we'd watch it together. I read up on the plot a bit more ro refresh my memory, and now I'm eager to see the series again.

Cheers from NJ (and Vancouver ;])

I´m from Germany and 31. Everyone around my Age knows Heidi, it was massive popular in the early 80ies here.

In Spain it was released in 1975. The day the general Franco died the official mourning did that Heidi wasn't shown that day. The next week TVE had to show 2 episodes intead of one.

I've always wondered why in German version they changed the original and beautiful music from Takeo Watanabe. I cn'a imagine the poetic beauty of Heidi without that music.

I went to Costa Rica in the 80s to visit my father's family and I saw this show for the very first time. Everyone in the family watched it, including my male cousins who were already in a university. I, too, just recently saw the intro and the closing credits and felt like crying. It had been 26 years since I last heard Heidi sing, "Abuelito dime tu..." I have always associated this show with that summer vacation in Costa Rica. Does anyone know how I can purcahse the entire series in Spanish?

I come from China. Now I'm almost 20 years old. This wonderful animation was released in our national TV station in the summer of 1995 when i was only 8 years old.I come across the show in a video website which remind me those innocent days.I can say Heidi is really popular in my generation, all the people around my age know the animation and like it.But they never released it again on the television. What a pity! And I can't find the chinese version anywhere.

I'm 34 and everyone my age remembers this show. It was huge in the early 80's. I'm from South Africa and here it was dubbed into Afrikaans. The Dvd's of the whole series have just been released here in South Africa, unfortunately only in Afrikaans.

I'm from India. And I loved it too. I agree it wasn't a macho thing. But I never saw it in that way. It's just a cartoon and I have the right to watch whatever i like. Anyway, in my opinion, this is one of the best animated series ever created. I miss the show. I used to watch it when I was a kid. it aired on cartoon network in english. And I, myself at that age didn't know english very well. yet, I knew what was going on in the show. And now I'm 16/...
I miss it so much...this show was kind of a dream to me....I saw the nature in a different way. And the adventures were great too. but it's heartbreaking that I coudn't find this show anywhere to download. I want the 52 episodes so badly.....I miss heidi. Wish I could get the episodes in eng....each and every episode,,, :D

Here in Italy it was REALLY popular, and still is. It keeps being re-aired, and it's the main way Italian kids get introduced to the story.

The fact that the Italian theme song is catchy as hell sure helps. You could ask any random italian of any age (who can speak of course) and they could sing you the whole opening credits version.

It's so popular 'Mrs. Rottermeier' is a way to quickly describe a person as humorless and uptight, as in 'Don't be such a Rottermeier (I once described the GPS' voice in my car being as sweet as hers).
