Why is YIND cut short?

It goes straight from Howe's solo to the final part of the song, bypassing the quieter/slower reprise of the main theme, in between. Was that an edit, or did they actually skip that part during the performance?.

That was the version they usually played during encores at that time, omitting the "Death defying, mutilated, armies scattered the Earth" section after the long guitar break. The complete version found on the Yessongs CD is not typical for that era, and doesn't come from the same recording. The tracks on the album/CD are taken from many different shows during their extensive 1972 touring schedule.

I'm more upset that they cut Starship Trooper. What the deuce? The film is only 70 minutes long.

"Only 72 minutes". That's actually pretty long for a 70's era concert movie. Most of them were more like 45-50 minutes. And at least they left Close To The Edge and And You And I fully intact (as compared to, say, Genesis In Concert, where we only get the latter portions of Supper's Ready and The Cinema Show).

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't either technical flaws in the Starship Trooper footage that rendered much of it unusable, or else they camera men had to change reels during the song, and most of it ended up being filmed.
