The novelization
Anyone here ever read it? I have, and it was excellent
shareYes, I believe the book came first if I remember rightly.
The script was one of the best book to film conversions I think I've seen.
Some of Howie's subtleties were lost, which was a shame but I can see why his character was stream lined...
The book came second. It was published in 1978 and was a novelisation of the 1973 film. I remember enjoying the fact that it had additional plot points and background info but essentially it was unremarkable.
Reality is the new fiction they say, truth is truer these days, truth is man-madeshare
Howie was more likable and sympathetic in the novel
shareRead the book last year.
In the book Howie is invited to the garden conseratory with a laboratory. This is a pivotal point which never made it in the final cut.
In the commentary to the film this was mentioned by Christopher Lee.
It also shows how Howie was chosen to be lured to the island
