Could This Be Considered A Musical?

Thoughts?

reply

It could

reply

If could only if one a a moron who doesn't know what a musical is.

A musical uses music and singing in place of spoken dialogue to advance the stories plot. Something TWM clearly does not do.

The Wicker Man is NOT a musical.

From the above article:

"Show Boat is the first Broadway score ever to have a coherent plot and integrated songs."

Show Boat was the first one to do it, and it was first produced in 1927. So according to YOUR definition of the word, there were no musicals until 1927, right?

You mean apart from the several points in the film where this is exactly what happens?

reply

I would have answered "No" until I saw Britt Ekland's sexy nude song-n-writhe number, where she is alone in her room singing along to instruments on the soundtrack -- which only ever happens in musicals.

So I guess the answer is... "Maybe."

Yea I'd say so. A lot of music was worked into the plot.

I loved Willow's seduction song. Also, the scene where they are dancing around a pole is great.

It's definitely a hybrid of some sort. Like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Grease.

reply

I'd say it could qualify as a musical. Maybe not a traditional one, but still.
