the split-screen was distracting, but the movie itself was ... well ... let's just say 'a product of its time' and leave it at that!

That's part of it's charm. The gimmicks distract you from how brain dead the characters must have been to not solve the mystery earlier.

Most people just mention DUO-VISION. But there are other interesting techniques here as well. Filters (tinting the frame with a single color) and superimposition as well as...yes, at times...SINGLE SCREEN!

If for nothing else, an interesting movie to see how these things work together. Some very nice cinematography as well. Good color, use of light and shadow.

Lots of stuff to watch for!

I thought this film was a lot of campy fun. The Duo-Vision gimmick added immensely to the considerable entertainment value. 8 out of 10 from me.
