Thank you, TCM

Thank you, TCM, for providing me with another surreal, bizarrely interesting movie to watch during those sleepless summer nights. I do mean that. The surreal movies are great fun to watch.

I agree! This was such an amusing movie to watch!
Now for it to be released on dvd! I need to own a copy!

It was surprisingly good. I thought the concept was pretty clever and sure, some scenes were a bit corny but overall it kept me watching!

I did fall asleep halfway through but it was late!

I kept hearing about how awful this movie was, but I actually enjoyed it. Wouldn't it be so cool if TCM Underground was its own channel?

TCM underground being its own channel is a GREAT idea!

I liked it too. I thought it may be ridiculous and silly. It was, but in a good way. The movie was fun.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

I saw this movie when it first came out. I read about it in a NY based Monster Fanzine called The Monster Times. Can't say I remember what the other film that played with it was.

I agree it's a weirdly entertaining movie. I think it had the potential to be truly ingenious if they had made a few changes in tone and script. I wish the murders had been handled in the style of an Argento Giallo with the killer's identity kept a secret and the murder scenes directed with more suspense and violence. Add more variety to the killings and make it more stylish. Since the setting is a large hotel they could have created a murder mystery and had the audience guessing with an assortment of characters.

I really like the split screen concept. Brian De Palma is a director who has made very creative use of it in some of his films. The one thing I like is how you can show what's happening in different places at the very same moment or get an unexpected perspective from someone that is completely unknown to the people in the other frame. It gives the viewer information that other characters are oblivious to while it is occuring. I think it would have been interesting to show the killer from the neck down in an unfamiliar setting creeping past something recognizable, an odd portrait or child's toy and then see someone in the other frame walking past that same object a short time later, tying the two characters together and creating a sense of danger.

I did like how Bare showed the flashbacks of the killer's childhood trauma, something often used in a Giallo. It was also clever to show the truth behind some of the characters lies.

It's really great having TCM around to unearth these little seen gems.

I can't quite bring myself to categorize this turkey in the "it's so bad it's good" category. I love trash and this movie delivers on so many levels, right down to the Reverend Mother from "The Flying Nun" as a former stripper who murders her husband and plays out a pitiful life as a wealthy eccentric hotel resident. The split screen actually gave me a headache after a while and though I am fond of 70s cheese in small doses, this flick goes way overboard, especially with those godawful lounge songs performed by the female lead. If it ever pops up on TCM or Retroplex again, I think I'll pass.

One of the best worst movies ever! Love the bad sets, the "duo-vision," the poofy wigs, the incredibly comical dialogue, and the far out music. This is a must-see; thank you, TCM for airing this camp classic!

maybe you should "pass" a bowel movement, because you are full of *beep*

I'm not kidding about this, but I watched this movie as a 10 year old when it was first released and it caused me to have a psychotic break..the first of many I'd have in my lifetime. I've looked for this movie for years because I wanted to rewatch it to see what was so upsetting to me back then...a friend found it right here...go figure. From what I read on the first page it may have been the directors need to film in a split screen that caused me to go all psycho...hehe...whatever, I'm gonna get this one and rewatch it.

I've had this on my DVR for a few months now, and I finally watched it today. I actually kind of liked it. It was kind of funky, but pretty cool. I didn't think I'd like the split-screen action, but I got used to it after a while.

Now if I can just get that damn song out of my head...

The movie will be shown on TCM this Friday at 11:15 PM Pacific time; I'll check it out.
