Hotel Del Coronado

I only ended up watching this movie because I noticed it was filmed at the Hotel Del Coronado. My family and I visited San Diego a couple of years ago and spent a lot of time there. I just fell in love with this historic, old, hotel. I can see why they used a different name for the hotel in the movie! LOL
It is a campy, very 70's movie. The kind that aren't great movies, but are fun to watch. I did know that the movie "Some Like it Hot" was filmed at the Del Coronado, but I had never heard of this movie. Great fun to watch!

The hotel looks like it would be dark, dank and smelly.

Was it?

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

No! The hotel and it's surroundings are beautiful. The original parts were built in the late 1800's. It has lovely old woodwork. It has been refurbished and added on to many times, I'm sure. I sits on a very nice stretch of white sand beach. There are several very good restaurants there also. It is quite expensive though. It has been a hang out for Hollywood people and many presidents and VIPs have stayed there. Check it out on a travel site and you can see pictures, etc... I loved it!

I used to live in San Diego and have visited the hotel many times. Ate a Thanksgiving dinner there one year and its supposed to be one of the great holiday meals served in entire country. It was extremely crowded, actually overflowing. Beautiful any time of year, but the holidays are spectacular!

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

While watching the movie, I went to the hotel's website. It looks beautiful. I'd like to stay there some time.

Zombies, man. They creep me out.

Even in 1973, when this film was made, the Hotel Del Coronado was THE place to stay in San Diego. Today it's a "must see" in the area. The grounds are magnificent, the rear of the hotel is literally ON one of the most beautiful beaches on the West Coast and after countless restorations, additions and embellishments, you almost cannot run out of things to do at the hotel. There is an underground shopping mall with exclusive shops, including a fine toy store, chocolate shop and mini-museum. There are several top restaurants, from a coffee shop to an exclusive first class restaurant and if you ever plan to get married, The "Del" as it's known in town, is THE place to have your ceremony and reception. One more note. The boulevard in Coronado outside the hotel, is a treasure trove of old time cafes, antique shops, historic homes and year-round special events.

"Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown!"

THE STUNT MAN (c.1980) with Peter O'Toole, was filmed here, too. Not too long after WICKED, WICKED (1973). I think STUNT MAN began filming in 1976. Charlie Chaplin and Babe Ruth stayed here. It was also the setting in the BOOK of SOMEWHERE IN TIME. Also: L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, did much of his writing here, and is said to have based his designs for the Emerald City on the hotel. (I never knew this until now!)

It looks like one might squeak by and stay here for about $250 a night!

I only bought this for The Del. The hotel was also used in My Blue Heaven. Is it any other films?
