remake please

Would love to see this movie remade simply because so much could be done with effects today.
Considering how many poor remakes are made the chances are it would be inferior but surely inthe hands of someone really talented it could work out well.

Definately.

*Definitely. If you're going to make a one word post, please spell that one word correctly. It's not rocket surgery.

*It's not rocket science. If you're only gonna use one expression, please get it right.

Why are people so keen on remakes it won't be long until the hit film of a certain year is remade the year after

reply

That used to happen in the thirties. They'd use the same story, change the title, and people would see it. Especially with the westerns; Border Law came out in 1931 and was remade as Whistlin' Dan the following year.

The Major and the Minor was made three times in thirteen years.

I know what you mean. But if you haven't notice people in society have no imagination, no innovation, no ambition. They all want a quick fix to something fast food culture, more now than before. So sense people like seeing the same things over and over again and have no imagination, Hollywood keep pumping out the same type of movie, remakes, reboots, and sequels. As long as people eat this garbage up, expect more garbage in cinemas. I'm sure this movie will be filled with tons of CGI, T and A, so all the fanboys will be satisfied.

reply

Not at all. Are people who go to see the same play with different actors, "having no imagination"?

If so, Shakespeare fans are the least imaginative of the lot.

Seeing different artistic talents take a new spin on an old tale, seeing how improved FX and new awareness of technology, the world and societal standards do not make a remake boring or bad. Poor execution by the creative team make a poor remake.

People in society have plenty of imagination. Just not the people with the money. Hand me $200 million and I wouldn't throw it all into one film that follows the conventions of a Hollywood 'blockbuster'. I would make 10 films that break the mold - you only need one to hit.

The answer to Hollywood's problem is to stop throwing money at the people who've been making them money for so long (in ever decreasing amounts when you adjust what their films make now compared to what they made 30 years ago), and they need to start gambling on some new blood.

A sequal was tried shortly after, with Peter Fonda I believe, might have been a TV Production

I agree, and usually I don't on the subject of re=makes, but make the exception with SyFy

I believe the right director could do this very well

You don't have to stand tall, but you have to stand up!

The sequel was called Futureworld and was released cinematically in 1976, although not for long as it was a flop.

Definitely right that with today's special effects this would make a stellar film. If any film has to be remade it has to be this one. They remade 'Total Recall' for God's sake and that wasn't really that old.

I think a slight plot change is needed though, still the same amount of world's but instead of two friends going to these destinations, it should be a man and his wife and they should relive out their fantasies there. Makes for a better plot and to monetize the eventual film, sex it up a little have some jealousy at play. Jealous of a robot you may ask! Strange! Maybe, but the future could eventually turn out like this, e.g. "AI", lifelike robots with lifelike intelligence and emotions, still obviously with a key flaw like in the original Westworld.

Why do actors like acting because they get to play many different parts and to some extent live out their fantasies so in the same respect many of us like roleplay and the ultimate roleplay a group of themed holiday resorts with lifelike robots.

Old London - Jack the ripper world - you have to save the robot prostitutes before they get attacked. The people visiting assume roles in the Scotland Yard and also the American actors get to do their English accents.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid world - where they roam and rob banks, like in the original Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid Film.

Ancient Egyptian world - Where they live as a King in the old Egyptian times.

James Bond - Secret Agent World - where they get to act as spies.

Gladiator World - Where in old Rome debauchery is rife and your life as a Gladiator seems unreasonably dangerous with robotic animals and opponents.

What a wild ride if someone ever does a remake this film. I don't think they can go far wrong because the roads can lead almost anywhere - just dependent on the places where they decide to take people. Of course, it would be like making 4 separate films in one but I don't believe this is a problem nowadays because most films have so many different locations nowadays and surely somewhere in the world most of these sets exist or can be setup with already made props from other films.

Finally. I was hoping for HBO to do some sci-fi . Hopefully this works out .

Sigh. Movies are more than special effects. Much more. This is a sci fi classic, the first terminator.

Remake...Using the same basic concept of an android theme park, explore more of the ideas suggested by advanced AI. Is it malfunctioning? Is it a computer virus? Are they achieving self-awareness?

Actor recommendations:

Daniel Day-Lewis, Liam Neeson, Brad Pitt, Mickey Rourke or Ralph Fiennes--The Gunslinger

Sam Rockwell--Peter Martin

Josh Brolin or Christian Bale--John Blane

Create a 'tiered' entertainment park with

A. An economy park with booths and rides and interaction with the robots from different worlds.
B. Submersion in a user-friendly world
C. Submersion in a user-friendly world with competition against machines and even fellow park-goers. The weapons are some high-tech version of a paint gun.
D. Submersion in a world that presumably can do damages that can be repaired on site (with the advance technology, perhaps healing simple minor wounds and fractures are relatively easy).

There would probably be options for a 'training camp' depending on what gamers would be willing to invest. There would be rules about firing upon and brawling with other players. Perhaps a computer chip embedded in the clothing stating degrees of injury and/or death.

Enough with all these remakes and reboots! I remember this one producer/director being interviewed on this talk show and when the interviewer asked him why there were so many reboots, he said, "That's because there's no new material out there ." Bull----! I work at a bookstore and all these movie people have to do is come through and look around and they'll find plenty of inspiration!

reply

AMEN !!! I am so tired of that explanation. There are so many novels and children's books that have never been produced. There used to be studio readers, people paid to read and write a one or two page synopsis. I don't think they exist anymore.

The problem is that studios are so afraid of being sued that they will not accept any unsolicited manuscripts or screenplays/teleplays. If you are not already published you do not have a chance in Hollywood. This is why all of the remakes/reboots are greenlit and why we get eight Harry Potter films, three Lord of the Rings, three Hobbits, six Twilights, five Jurassic Parks and I have lot count on the Fast and Furious'. I am surprised there was only one Inkheart considering how many books Cornelia Funke has written but I am just as pleased that there probably will not be any more.

Cast looks decent? 

Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Miranda Otto is beast of a cast for a TV show.

reply

"decent" means "okay", and I like Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris.
