What did you rate ''The Werewolf of Washington'' (1973)?

I gave the film a 1. I almost rated it a 2 for the transformation scenes, but the movie just didn't deserve it. It took me awhile to suspect this horror junk was supposed to be a comedy and even longer to be certain. The dismal attempt at political satire is, above all, what killed the thing for me. There are plenty of weird scenes for bad movie fans, including the dwarf doctor's encounter with the werewolf and the oppressively wacky bowling scene. A better filmmaker might want to pick up this movie where it ends. There's some potential in the closing twist.

I would love to see a good movie that picks up where this movie ends.

This movie is so bad that it's good! 10.0 for 10.0!

I gave this a 6/10. This movie is stupid fun, but at least it's fun!

Dean Stockwell gives his usual strong performance in a film that doesn't deserve him, the stop-motion transformation scenes were fairly effective, and I was never bored. What's up with that bowling scene, anyway? And yes, the little doctor was an interesting touch; he had a man's hands on a boy's body.

This film can't seem to decide whether it's horror or satire, but that's part of its weird appeal for me. I can't defend this as a good or important film -- in fact, it's fairly forgettable -- but if a movie makes me care about its characters for 90 minutes, it's done at least something right. Mission accomplishes.

I wish I had as much fun with it as you did, but the attempts at comedy killed it for me. It's hard to laugh at a bad movie when it's trying to be funny. (And that's why I think Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is a complete bore. Give me Robot Monster or Plan 9 from Outer Space.)

...it's fairly forgettable...
Over two years after starting this thread, I don't remember a whole lot of it. But I do remember the final twist I alluded to, and I wish someone would make a movie with that premise—namely (everyone is duly warned of SPOILERS!) that the U.S. President is a werewolf. He could be a vampire, too; that might work.

Well, it's only been a few days since I saw this, and already I've forgotten much of it. That's the nature of most of the films I see, especially because I've seen so many. I tend not to give many 1s or 2s except for excruciating junk like "Meet the Spartans" (and yes, I have seen it, and it's painful).

Certainly this could have been handled a lot better, and I'd also love to see a "serious" film with the president as a werewolf or vampire. I think John Carpenter's "They Live" came fairly close, with aliens in position of power – the kind from outer space, not other countries.

Personally, I liked the political satire. If this movie were made today, do you think they could get away with the werewolf killing, say, Sarah Palin?

"There's some potential in the closing twist."

Now THAT part I agree with. Think about it: the resulting demand for silver and its effects on the economy, the President/werewolf supported by environmentalists who want to protect wolf habitats...

Or would the USA devolve into a Mad Max-style apocalypse?

I'd much rather see Sarah Palin as the werewolf!

I laughed like crazy through most of it. It works great as a comedy. I gave it an 8.

in the beginning on my double feature dvd dean stockwell really gets built up called the legendary, still personally i've only seen him in this and "paris texas", where dean stanton had the main part, but it stuck with me, this has a really messy beginning and what's up with the part about that neckless so hard to fit, the whole movie has a goofy vibe about it and the 2006 dvd (and poster?) makes it appear as a comedy. notice the actors seem to have a problem keeping a straight face in the scenes with sergeant pepper (redneck cop in bond), the bathroom comment from a guy out of picture was the funniest part of the movie, this just became even weirder by the end.

i'm a tic tac,
and i don't want to be associated with the guy im with,
but he shoved my kinfolk in his mouth,
and obscenity started coming out,
today wish i could go back to my innocent old reputation,
the 1½ calorie breath mint found scrambling in containers,
but now whenever a female walk by,
i'm connected to the behaviour of this guy,
feelin guilty not sure how to act,
walking a fine line a shaking tic tac,
may i this... may i that...
don't know how to think and do right,
confused by this situation, why am i here, who am i,
im not just a mint, im a tic tac.
