I looooove this movie.

The first time I saw parts of it, I couldn't believe I had never heard of it before because it was so good. Black Woodstock indeed! But forget that, Wattstax, looked better than Woodstock imho!

This is a film that really needs to be shared with people, especially young people, especially young black people. Its such a positive portrayal of black folk. Kinda makes me wish a black person had actually directed it, but I still appreciate Mel Stuart for making it.

I love the 'real people' commentary intersperced with the hilarious and insightful commentary from Richard Pryor. I've only seen the movie twice, once at a school function and once on PBS. (Three cheers for PBS!) But yea, when I get a little extra cash, this will definitely be a DVD purchase.

I agree, My parents told me about Wattstax and I happened to see it on tv about 15 years ago.I love the music and when they interviewed Richard Pryor,Ted Lange and Raymond Allen. They need to do a Wattstax every year.I bought it about 5 years ago on Ebay and I bought the 2 cd soundtrack.

I just watched it for the first time. I liked it a whole lot. I could not help but noticed that a lot of these (non James Brown) songs were sampled by numerous rap songs. The Bar-Kays tore it up for sure! They had some gorgeous, natural black women back then. The woman in the red & white polka dot dress.... Damn!!

I climbed through the window of this fly ass crib!..... It was full of sammiches!

Hard to believe that most of people in the movie already have received their AARP brochures in the mail long time ago. Even the little kids seen are over 40 by now.

Way more interesting than Woodstock. The clothes, the hair, the banter and the music.

Calling this a "black Woodstock" is kind of weird though, since Jimi Hendrix's performance at Woodstock is the most famous one.

That was Rufus Thomas making it happen. That whole segment is just unreal. The Funky Chicken. The slow motion dancing.
Get off the field, get on the field. Now get off for real.

I looooooooove this movie too.

Amen to the woman in the red and white polka dot dress. She is a singular reason to keep breathing and clawing one's way through this life; that someone so beautiful could happen, for just one moment. And I could be there.
