The movie is good and makes me want to find out more

I have long been fascinated by the complex history of the South. The Southern mob was more loosely structured than the famous one up North. It makes me want to find out more about what led to the formation of these criminal gangs, and more about the real sheriff's life.

Bumping an old thread, but having grown up in the South (born in Mississippi & living in Tn most of my life) the lifestyle portrayed in the movie is very realistic. The beer joints like those shown were quite numerous in my county and most of West Tennessee. These were places you didn't dare venture into unless you were with someone who knew the place and the people who went there. I grew up in the 70s mainly getting high on pot and other drugs (we did drink, but no moon) but long-haired hippie types just didn't go to those places. I heard one story of some young guys who went to a joint in the "bottoms" called Mama Gouches. The story said the guys got beat up and their hair cut with a pocket knife. And hell yes, I believe it!
