Was anybody a little disappointed they didn't have the Vault Keeper?

Don't get me wrong - this is a great anthology of stories. But I just though they should have added in the Vault Keeper from the original comics. He was actually much more grotesque than the original Crypt Keeper. Of course, the most grotesque host of all had to be the Old Witch of "The Haunt of Fear."

"Just repeat to yourself, 'It's just a show; I should really just relax.'"

Maybe he was where he was supposed to be but fate wasn't requiring him to take care of the characters in this film. Maybe in the two film's universe, judgement was dished out differently to different people.

reply

Yeah, the fact that they're more or less punishing themselves works better, I think, than a quick end like in Tales.

reply

I agree, it was an interesting ending.

"Just repeat to yourself, 'It's just a show; I should really just relax.'"

They still could have had an intro and outro where we would have at least seen the Vault Keeper.

Too bad they didn't make it a trilogy with the third one being the Haunt of Fear.

You wouldn't dare!

The whole time I watched it today, I kept thinking, TOM BAKER would have made a great Vault Keeper. The way he kept egging the other characters on for most of the movie... "What about YOU?"

reply

Yeah, I was expecting the Tom Baker character to turn out to be satan or a demon (the red hair and beard) and tell the others they are in hell, similar to the end of Tales from the Crypt.

reply

Would've been awesome. And they could've made a film, HAUNT OF FEAR with someone playing the Old Witch. The Crypt-Keeper cartoon just isn't enough, you know.

When I first watched this, I was totally expecting the Vault Keeper to appear and was let down when he never showed up. The Crypt Keeper has always been well represented in all of the media based on the original 50's EC horror comics, but the Vault Keeper and the Old Witch are always sorely missing. At least they were both in the Tales from the Cryptkeeper cartoon, but it would have been cool to see live action versions.
