what happened in the end, did all the men die or go to hell?

It's revealed that all of them had been dead for some time. While the others go back to their graves (a door opens, leading a path to a emetery) One of them says that they're doomed to retell their stories night after night as a punishment for the evil things that they had done when they were alive.
