Is it really that bad?

I had heard about this movie from a friend online. I have never met this person in person, but she told me that Turkish Delight was basically a porno. She told me that the scenes were so graphic and they had closeups of rutger and the other girl naked? I didn't believe her at all and I was wondering if any one who has seen the movie could comment. thanks

It does have pretty much extoric scenes at the beginning of the movie and even some male frontal nudity scenes, but if you are patient enough to go through with it to the end, you will find it definately not "basically a porno", but a classical masterpiece about love, passion, marriage, desease and death.

I really agree with you, stefanie. Just calling this a porno isn't fair. It's a beautiful, controversial love-story which elaborates on Dutch culture and society. This is the Dutchest movie I've ever seen, the atmosphere is just so nostalgic that it really adds to the story. People from out of The Netherlands might not fully understand this movie because it's about Dutch culture. One should bear in mind that this movie really stirred things up when it was released.

IT's got a full frontal nude shot of Rutger Hauer? Or somebody else? I wouldn't mind seeing what Rutger's got! I've had a crush on him ever since I saw "Nighthawks"!

reply

Yes, you can pretty much see all his goods on more than one occasion.

I've gotta be honest... I only got this film to see Rutger in the nuddy!!

But it's quite tame really I thought, not a bad film at all.

That's what the other guy said.

For not being a bad film at all that rape scene sure was a lot. The idea of attacking someone you supposedly love shook me up like nothing else. It was a very compelling and well made film, but it was shocking as hell!

reply

It most certainly is not a porno. Your friend is clearly easily shocked. Yes, you see Hauer's penis a number of times, and there are a number of sex scenes, but there is nothing pornographic about any of it. It's a very well made film which gets a 12 cert in Holland.

reply

I completely agree with Tristan and several of the other comments posted. There is a lot of nudity and sexuality throughout the film, however, it is also one of the most (if not the most) moving love story of all time. This film stirred all of my emotions. I mean that in the most positive way possible.

I can really understand why this book is so beloved in the Netherlands. It is an amazing novel and film. The soundtrack is also one of the best I have ever heard.

reply

Actually it was voted the best Dutch film of the twentieth century by a number of critics. Which does not mean it really is that good, but you can take it as an indication: no, it is not a porn movie.

reply

Let's put it this way, you aren't going to get an In the Realm of the Senses effect with this film. There isn't one hardcore scene in this film. Though some of the scenes of sexuality may push the envelope a bit (though I am not even sure that they really do), nothing comes off as really over the top.

reply

This film is definitly not pornographic but it is, as you could call it, 'direct'. I think that most people will find Turks Fruit shocking but more because of the 'directness' than because of the sex or the nudity.

It is still a great film though. A lot of Dutch dislike Turks Fruit because of it's 'shock value', but this is really a significant film.

reply

No the movie is not that bad. I think its great actually, I'm not even big on love stories, but this one seems very real, it's almost like they were following this couple around with a camera. On top of that its a dark movie, not at all a feel good movie at the end which I like.

reply

it's very explicit in fact probably more explicit then some other films where the some of the sex acts are real (brown bunny, pola x, lie with me, intimacy) some of the sex is really over the top compared to other films with graphic sexuality like all the sex rutger is having with women at the beginning of the film. but there's definately a story to the movie. it's a very simple "boy meets girl/ problems arise" plot which uses explicit sexualality to tell the story. not a porno.

reply

Never met a porno movie i didn't like.

Watch "Spetters" that movie is fun when the guy gets ass raped in the subway by some guys and at the end of the movie he says to the guy that ass raped him that he liked it and wants to do it more often. Its so funny.

reply

Turks fruit isn't a porn nor sexfilm. It is a film about life, love and death, things we all know.It is a very emotionel film with great actors and no close ups of penises or vaginas doing the dirty.

reply

Generally a "porno" is a film in which there is full genitalia shown and some kind of penetration actually going on.
