this film is a RAW delight (note contains spoilers)

I saw Turkish Delight some years ago now. and have also, many times since

As a huge Rutger Hauer fan anyway; I was expecting great things. I had seen most of Rutgers films anyway, asides his early dutch, verhoven films.

I love the way this movie gets away with being outragously vile in places;

Just Think how raw it is; reminder of some scenes;

Finding a horse eye in the restaurant

a masturbation scene

references to water sports

references to scatt loving

Sex scenes (several) & a rape scene

A girls water breaking during pregnancy

seeing a bloated guy dying of cancer

Rutger checking his girlfriends Stools for blood

Rutger puking up over an entire dinner party

& general nudity.

Yet all of it works, none of those scenes seeme un needed; all of the scenes are relevant. And it carrys its self off (Very well) as a tragic romantic love story.

Whenever I break up with a girl I watch Turkish Delight, remind myself that nobody's perfect, dust myself off, and carry on. and remind myself IT COULD BE WORST! I could have been married to her! it helps me get through it all.

That's how well this film deliveres. Erics love story is totally convincing and their break up is completely heart rending. It is a truly great love story that captures Holland Spellbindingly. Even down to the crap weather.

Both leads are played brilliantly.

No wonder it's such a renound hit, it deserves all of its success.

ITS JUST SOO RAW!!! England have nothing like this!

Spetters and Soldier of Orange rock too

Yes it is RAW. I am a huge Rutger fan. On another board someone mentioned this movie, so I got it from Netflix. I almost could not finish it. It had some very disturbing and stomach turning parts. I was completly disgusted by parts of this movie and bored by others. It also felt like it was a mild porn flick. I put it in the mail box as soon as I finished it. I didn't want anyone to see it in my house. I still cannot believe that I watched the whole thing, but that is one of my quirks. No matter how bad a movie is I still have to watch the whole thing if I start it.
Before I get bashed for underappreciating this great Dutch classic. Let me just say that I have read that this movie is very Dutch. Maybe since I am American, I just don't get it.

It's just missing beastiality and dwarf sex, otherwise it would be the most disturbing movie of all time. caliluga is prob number one. which did have beasitiality in it to my knowledge.

I very much enjoyed Turks Fruit.. it was a little graphic but nothing too bad. But Spetters I found to be absolutely disgusting. I enjoyed the movie a fair bit but that unsimulated male on male blowjob and the rape scene I found to be repulsive...

Soldier of Orange is a great film as well... and there's nothing disgusting like in Spetters...

I am not a Rutger Hauer fan really, but I am a huge fan of Paul Verhoeven's. Even a man's smile can be utterly disturbing, even a man's love for scatt can be acceptable, depending on how you relate to it, and how it's presented before you. Turks Fruit is a mesmerizing experience for any person who is in love with European cinema. Hollywood/Asian actors cannot even imagine acting in a film like this. After watching movies like these, I don't feel like watching much else.

I just wonder if people think the sex and nudity is too Graphic in this film and disgusting and hard to watch find it hard to have sex with there partners? The nudity and sex is no different to how the majority of people have sex, but why is it when it is on screen people seem disgusted? You see someone shooting up Heroin in the street, or someone stabbed or shot in real life you'll hate that naturally of course, but in film, somehow Violence is acceptable. But when a ladies, Ass, Breasts or Vagina or a mans Penis is on screen - something most people see everyday of there significant others - for some reason today's - mainly US - public seem to jump up and down about about breasts on screen. You're all adults people. Welcome to the real world. Romance and love isn't always a Jennifer Aniston film.

Haha, to get disgusted by ordinairy stuff and fail to appreciate the beauty and the truth. Isn't it sad? Beyond hypocrisy, plain ignorance, just deny who we are. Keep the ivory tower erect.
