A good movie and worth watching.

I admit it wasn't one of the Duke's best but it is still good.

I was pleasantly surprised. One reviewer's post is correct - too much horse-riding. The score was crap, except for a few suspenseful rhythms and the 'clever' switcheroos employed to show crossing the river into Mexico or good guy/bad guy were campy, but not high campy, so therefore annoying. However, the opening train-approaching-the-deserted-depot scene is beautifully shot and the titles linger in just the right places as we are pulled in just like the train to our easy and amusing entertainment. Wayne is funny and touching, Ben Johnson is hilarious, and Ann-Margaret is hot. Watching the geezers counsel the young'uns might be cheesy, but it also can give the warm fuzzies if you suspend your 90s irony for a moment. The bad guys are far away and stay there, but we are treated to some boozing, some flirting, and some old tale-telling by a pack of losers who end up feeling pretty good about themselves. Overall, not half bad.

In short, a fun western.

The Train Robbers would be ok for the 60's or 50's but not anymore for the 70's. At the end there is a nice action scene but all the 20 opponents cannot shoot and hit their targets? Normally some of the Wayne's Friends get killed or wounded. No one in that movie and no blood. The twist is interesting but when you think about it totally nonsense.
The Movie is rescued by the photography of William H. Clothier and of course the screen presence of John Wayne.

In way you are right. John Wayne, Ben Johnson, Rod Taylor and the other two guys are looking like a bunch of loosers at the end.

They should rob the train and get the girl.

The thing is i think she kinda liked them and i think her character learns how to be a better con after being around guys like Lane.

She's playing them from first scene to last. She may have some regrets, but not enough to change her mind about conning them.
