shorter running time

Why is the newly remastered (and beautiful looking I might add)Dragon Dynasty version 4 full minutes shorter than the previously available DVD?

No cuts and this site is usually dead on, even with obscure movies and their releases.

However, I have heard that the Dragon Dynasty version removed some special effects that didn't hold up today and altered those scenes slightly(I think it was a reviewer on Amazon.com who pointed out the differences).

Sadly, it doesn't seem this film's fans are on IMDB to answer these questions. I love this film, but outside of DVD I don't know much about it and can't answer. I guess if i were to find all the DVD versions available I might(and since the previous website doesn't mention it, I'm doubtful) find different versions that are more complete then the Dragon Dynasty Release.

Dragon Dynasty has had some detractors for their releases, but besides the one review i saw saying the film's effects were altered, I'm guessing their version titled King Boxer is the best version available on DVD at the moment.

Yes, I know both of my comments are 2 years late on this topic but for future people reading this site:

I forgot to mention also that the Dragoon Dynasty release PRINTED the wrong running time. I personally own their DVD which says the film runs 98 mins. However, My DVD player has a status button and if you press it at the beginning of the film playing one will notice this DVD actually runs 102 minutes long(technically an hour and 41 minutes and a few seconds). So its as complete as most DVD additions, bearing in mind maybe there exist non-remastered versions with different special effects.

All that aside, I would say the Dragon Dynasty release(which is really a Miramax release before Disney bought them(and now sold them back as of 2010)) is the best DVD version to buy. Maybe even the definitive with its special features considered.
