terrible ending

i was watching this last night on Fox movie channel .. a good idea for a movie .. i knew it was a made for TV movie so i knew there wouldn't be much violence and it would be tame .. but .. still .. made for TV or not .. it really needed a better ending .. very lame ending

I think they wanted to portray the dad as a hero in the end because he'd been kind of a wuss for most of the movie. But I agree with you, it could have been better. Another thing is, I doubt they all would have stood there while the dad fought the other guy.

I believed it because they were all still young and were disillusioned with the direction their leader, Jerry, was taking them. Frank, the captured hippie, said they were supposed to be an alternative family, but Jerry basically ruined it with his dubious Manson-ish leadership where he was increasingly turning the group into thugs to survive without getting a job. Plus, with the possible exception of David, I think they all felt bad about how they were treating an innocent family. This can be observed in Frank after DeeDee (Dey) selflessly tends to his forehead wound.
