Who Was the Killer?**spoilers**

I am having a hard time remembering the killer and his motivation, since I only saw this movie once when it was first released. Wasn't it a character who was a barber or butcher or something like that, and the motivation was about the museum squeezing out his business?

Also, was the killer dispatched in the hot wax at the end? I seem to remember that scene.

SPOILER ALERT:

The killer was--

TIM FOWLEY, the amiable bartender/landlord who knew that Claude Dupree, the manager of the museum, had a treasure hidden in there, and was determined to get it by hook or by crook. He murdered Dupree while posing as his Jack the Ripper figure to prevent him from selling the museum, and later murdered Amos Burns, the American Broadway producer to prevent him from acquiring it. He also killed his star singer because she was an unwitting witness, and Karkov the mute because he tried to stop him (it was poor Karkov who ended up being in the hot wax), just before the killer dies at the point of a battleax while in a life-or-death struggle with the Scotland Yard hero, Sgt. Hawkes.
