D.V.D. in the Balkans?

I`ve checked a few online stores in the former Yugoslavia & most of them list an out of print video as the only release .Has it been released on D.V.D. in the Balkans or are there any plans to do so?(would be very nice to have an uncut Battle Of Neretva as well but I`m dreaming now!)

reply

I have the german release DVD:
"DIE FUENFTE OFFENSIVE" Kesselschlacht an der Sutjeska.
Starring Richard Burton, Irene Papas Michael Cramer.
Language: Only in German, no other subtitles whatsoever.

Anyway, it's one of my favorite warflicks, voted an 8/10.

reply

Damn wish I`d done my German `O level at school now! Thanks anyway.

I have a few yugoslavian warfilms just in german.
But I ordered also a few yugoslavian warflicks from Yugoshop on amazon.com/z-shops, a couple of years ago.

reply

It`s on UK film channel Movies4Men in the next few weeks so worth keeping an eye out for it.

Check Amazon, about time too, this will be released by Arrow Films at the end of the year.Dont know about widescreen or extras (which i doubt) but a proper release is better then none.My video version went out years ago, terrific war film and no C.G.I. and also they will be releaseing Battle of Neretva at the same time, bring it on !!!

reply

Yeah I emailed Arrow to see if they could provide more details but they couldn`t be bothered to reply. They were both originally scheduled for end of 2009 but got shelved. Both of these films have been shown recently on UK film channel Movies4Men and Neretva was an extended 158m cut with subtitles-widescreen picture too although it was video quality.

reply

The quality on Arrow's DVD is much, much, much worse than their not very good release of Neretva - it looks like a bad camcorder bootleg - though it is letterboxed close to 2.35:1 (Neretva was cropped at 1.85:1). It's also a cut version running 106 minutes despite being labelled as 125 minutes.

most of the yugoslav movies including "Sutjeska" and "Neretva" have been released on DVD in the former Yugoslav countries and can be purchased litteraly everywhere, i got mine in a supermarket, it was cheap. But if you are not from ex-yugoslavia by origin, be sure that the dvd's include subtitles, cause some don't.

reply

I was wonder if the movie Operation Cross Eagles has been released on DVD in the former Yugoslav countries? That is one of my favorite war movies.

Have a look at Dogs Of war Collection WW2:European Front 10 film set r1 dvd boxset.Various mixture on here including "Cross Eagles" and "Eagles Over London"

Have you seen Eroica? Two shortish films by Andrzej Munk, very black comedies set in the war and all the better for it. Recommended.
