Was anyone else annoyed with, 'Ya follow?'

I know it was Lonnegan's way of taking charge, being Mr. Tough Guy, and shutting down all dissent. But it was just such a goddamned annoying way to do it. That phrase! I dunno, it just really bothered me.

Anyone else?

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

I thought it was a great catch phrase. Long before lines like Ahnold's, "I'll be back!" He only said it three times also.

"I will not go down in history as the greatest mass-murderer since Adolf Hitler!" - Merkin Muffley

No no one else was bothered

It showed how arrogant and unforgiving the character was.

I love it that the one and only time no one responded to it was Gondorf in the poker game.
Lonnigan said it after G manipulated his last name on purpose yet again.

Damn, I'm good.

I don't think it was annoying in any manner; it actually quite accurately reflected Lonnegan's aggressive and demanding personality. Ya fallow?!

It's not that rare of an expression. Maybe you don't like it, or how he said it, but it's not all that uncommon.

No different than Captain Jack's "Savvy?"

I was around in '73 and '74 when the movie had its long run, and various guys I knew carried two things out of The Sting:

They'd say "Ya follow?"

They'd sweep a finger across the nose to say goodbye.

...but just for a few months. It was like SNL catch phrases, "two wild and crazy guys" and whatnot.
