LOL. No.

I don't know how old you are, but while this might be conceivable in 2016, I assure you there is no way in Hell a major studio like MGM would have put out a movie with a gay or bi-sexual main character in 1973 - let alone one starring two of the most manly men in the history of cinema.

In a somewhat related story, Gore Vidal was an uncredited writer on Ben Hur, another great Charleton Heston movie. He always felt that Masala's animosity toward Judah wasn't really well motived, so he wanted to add a scene where Masala made a pass at Judah and was rebuffed. Since Romans were open-minded in this area and Jews were not, this would have made *perfect sense* historically, but apparently the studio execs' heads damn near exploded when they heard the suggestion.

You really didn't start seeing positive gay characters in serious mainstream American movies until the 1990s.

No gay or bi major characters played by big-name male leads, circa 1973 (admittedly altered wording)? What about Al Pacino in "Dog Day Afternoon"?

The Boys in the Band came out in 1970 and was major Hollywood film about a group of gay men gathering for a birthday party.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

No! It was more of a close friendship or an old grandpa and grandson relationship. Each had to count on each other for survival.

I didn't notice any. Can you give us some examples?

They old friends, and seem to like to play with each other's minds. By saying "I Love You" over and over it was, to me, kind of an inside joke... "Because you love me," whenever one of them gets annoyed, and living so close in that world, it can happen. I think them saying that was to keep optimistic. Also, they do love each other. Don't mean nothing. And I think if Heston's character were gay or bi-sexual, he'd be with Chuck Connors, not shrimpton.
