Filmed in '70 or '72?

Lots of misinformation regarding this flick, but I have a hunch principle photography happened in '70, post-production finished in '72, final release in '74. Heck, even the release date fluctuates back and forth from '73 to '74! Crazy. The main reason I suspect it dates from '70 is because of James Patterson. I don't know what his professional schedule was in '70 since he was primarily a stage actor, but his health probably would've been an issue by '72. I realize younger patients can take more abuse.

Patterson died in 1972. It was filmed in 1970. If you note, when the Patrick O' Neal lawyer character surveys the wine his mistress, Astrid Heeren, has purchased for their evening meal at Butler house, he sardonically states, that they 'got lucky', he says, "...This is early 1970, that's very hard to come by!".......I think 1970 is most accurate.

I too took that comment about the wine to mean that it was shot in late 1970-early 71, yet the copyright is clearly 1972. It was definitely as cold as it looked on screen. One of my all time favorite chillers.
