I wish Anchor Bay would pick this up.

Anchor Bay tends to give older horror films like this phenomanal DVD treatment, and this movie deserves it. Every DVD edition available is of low, cheap quality, and the picture and sound is really bad. Anchor Bay could fix all of these picture problems, remaster it (clean up the picture a little too), and add some bonus features to it (maybe a few interviews, photo gallery, trailer, something!). I really wish Anchor Bay would pick up this title and give it a good DVD release.

Wouldn't anyone else like to see a quality DVD release for this movie?

Today I sent emails to Anchor Bay's horror division, VCI (who don't always produce the same quality as AB, but might be more open to the idea) and Synapse Video - they did magnificent restorations of "Lemora" (possibly even more obscure that SNBN) and "Street Trash".

I have the Diamond (awful), the Brentwood (same washed-out color, slightly better cropping and lacking end credits) and the St Clair Vision DVDs, and based on tips from other posters, have just ordered the 50 Chilling Classics to see if the color and over quality are any better.

The version in the Mill Creek "50 Chilling Classics" has marginally better color, but the print is still overlain with a lot of scratches and debris, and still blurry (looks like a dub of a dub, but the other P.D. discs look like a dub of a dub of a dub). It <does> have the end credits, which the Brentwood disc lacks, so I vote it as the best of a bad lot.

I still think this is a extremely effective, moody film, despite the many gaps and inconsistencies in the plot - the more I've watched it, the more I admire it. I think it could win over a much larger audience in a clean, clear, FOCUSSED print, and a commentary by some of the cast would be wonderful - especially if Jeffrey Konvitz could clear up some of the plot muddles.

And the Mill Creek collection, although of uniformly bad quality, has some interesting and obscure films, some of which are not on other DVDs, so if you can pick up a cheap copy, it's worth a look.

Digimon did a pretty good job at cleaning up the film. But because the film is of such low quality to begin with, there's only so much "cleaning up" a distributor can do.

That's *beep* It's not the film that's of "such low quality" but the material that is being "cleaned up" and if that material was originall transferred from VHS or Beta to DVD, the low quality has nothing to do with the film which, of course, was shot on 35mm film stock and should lock astonishingly sharp and vivid if properly and directly transferred from the 35mm negative (or even a release print, notwithstanding the wear & tear like scratches).

Regardless of where the fault lies, I'd really love to see a state-of-the-art restoration and DVD done for this film.

Not being knowledgeable on the quality of the original print, or if there is even a complete print out there, I wouldn't venture a guess as to whether this will ever happen.
