I'll go with this one. It's not trying to be so cool that it becomes snarky and annoying. Girls are pretty. The story is actually relevant in a broader context. Locations are great. A real adventure. I know people like the gritty cool cat original flick, so i understand why people hate this one so much.
I just think Shaft got some depth with this one. And his lines are just as cool as ever. :)
I have to go with the first or the second movie, just because I love that 70s New York atmosphere in those movies. But if I ranked the movies by hotness of the Shaft girls, Shaft in Africa would be the best :P
shareI didn't like Shaft's Big Score so I'll cut that one out. That said, you can't really say. Shaft and Shaft in Africa are like 2 different types of movies. Shaft was all about a smart-talking, bad mother, and had enough cool and laughs without being cheesy. Shaft in Africa has more in common with an adventure/spy/action/Bond movie, even John Shaft says so shortly after he lands in Africa.
shareShaft had the best characterization, Shaft's Big Score had the best action, and Shaft in Africa had the best sex. That's not to say that it was the only thing that this film had going for it though. It's pretty on par with the first sequel, albeit it takes the character in a different direction.
In the first film, Shaft was a detective with attitude. In the second film, Shaft was an action hero. In the third film, Shaft was James Bond. If there had been a fourth film, Shaft would have had a cape on his back and an S on his chest.
