If I like Before Sunrise/Sunset, would I like this?

Please answer! I'm intending to buy the Criterion version, but as I can't rent it nor download it, I haven't got a good impression of the film yet.

This is the best film ever. I think everyone should view it. It's a very honest portrayal of relationships and the acting is superb. I listened to the interview with Liv Ullmann and when this was playing in Sweden the streets were empty. Everyone was captivated by this TV series. If you like films with conversations like Before Sunrise, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!!

"Scenes from a Marriage" is completely different from Before Sunrise/Sunset. The manner in which Bergman probes into human relationships in this movie is very unconventional and delves much more deeply than either Sunrise or Sunset. I happen to be a big fan of both SFAM and (specifically) Sunset.

But I don't think liking one will have much influence on whether you'd like the other.

yes. it's all about interactions of a couple, just like before sunrise/sunset.

Though I love Before Sunrise/Sunset, Scenes from a Marriage is so much deeper, complex and powerful it blows the Linklater films out of the water.

Might you feel this way because Scenes from a Marriage chronicles a whole marriage spanning the course of several years whereas Linklater's films depict the intertwining lives of strangers on just two days?

Although Sunrise and Sunset aren't as dark or perhaps even as serious as Scenes of a Marriage, they remain two of the best modern romantic films I've ever seen. I wouldn't really rank Scenes over Sunrise/Sunset - Linklater's films are philosophical and intriguing in their own way (conversations of the two characters as they stroll through the different cities sharing their experiences, their beliefs, their lives, themselves, etc) whereas Scenes is more about discovering the deeper and everlasting connection that is shared between two people, despite their failed marriage and anger/hatred for what they've done to each other. In Sunrise/Sunset, there was no marriage precisely because both characters did not want to entertain the notion of ruining the memory of that day (and each other) in case it didn't work out.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

I understand that im couple of decades late, but may be useful for others. Yes I think you'll like this. I mean Bergman is Bergman, but don't listen to elitist jerks who will tell you the trilogy sucks and blows compared to this movie. They are two different things, and while the trilogy lacks personal drama that this movie has, it's still pretty much amazing when it comes to relationships and sincerity. It's just more of a "fun" movie compared to Bergman, and I wouldnt even call the 3rd part fun. It's just more modern.
