Similar RECENT movies?

SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE is probably my favourite film (or television specials, for that matter) from one of my all-time favourite directors, and I am just curious: are there any recent films (ie. post-2000) that are similar to it? I'm not just talking about storyline, but as far as style goes too. The only one I can think of is JUNEBUG from 2005, which was a brilliant Bergmanesque comedy/drama. It was as such in that it was appropriately slow-paced, relied heavily on meaningful and sincere dialogue, the camera wasn't so fancy that it took away from the masterful performances, it seemed purposely cut together in a rough, raw manner to maintain a realistic, almost home-movieish quality, etc.

If anyone can help me with this, I'd be most obliged, for, as an aspiring teenaged filmmaker, I'd like to know whether or not the famed "Bergman-style", as it were, is acceptable in contemporary cinema. Thanks in advance!

Hallo,

concerning the relationship between men and women there are similar dialog-driven movies:

- "Sarabande" (Bergmans own sequel to "Scenes from a marriage")
- "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset" by Richard Linklater (similar dialogue)
- "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (not recent, but very intense!)
- "My Night with Maud" (Eric Rohmer, similar dialogue)
- "When Harry Met Sally" (more comedic)
- "The Celebration" by Thomas Vinterberg ("Dogma" movie, strong home-movieish style!)
- "Closer"
- "Le mépris" (Godard, beautiful camera work!)
- many movies by Woody Allen
- some movies by Wong Kar-Wai (more melodramatic, but visually very beautiful!)

But "Scenes from a marriage" is definitely the strongest of them all!

I agree with Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? & Le Mepris.
I would say Revolutionary Road has a very similar subject matter.
Blue Valentine is somewhat in the same vein as well.

I awarded 'Scenes from a Marriage' a score of 10/10. Of the thousands of films I've seen, the only other films to merit a score of 10/10 are as follows:

- Yi Yi http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0244316/
- Raising Victor Vargas http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316188/
- Lost in Translation http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0335266/
- Enlightenment Guaranteed http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0177749/
- Before Sunset http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381681/
- Before Sunrise http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112471/
- Y Tu Mama Tambien http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245574/

Good Luck!

I know it's been a while since this was posted, but last night I watched NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS, a mumblecore movie, and near the end it suddenly reminded me of SFAM in several ways.

This Is 40 is basically the same concept (different plot though), with an Apatow twist.

"Before Sunrise," "Before Sunset" and "Before Midnight" are three of my favorite movies, and they have a lot in common with another of my favorite movies -- "Scenes from a Marriage" -- although I confess I didn't see the theatrical movie, only the miniseries. If you loved "SFAM," I suspect you'll love the Richard Linklater movies, too.
