An all around feel bad movie

If you can make it to 1:35 without dying of boredom you'll be hit with Lion being told his son was miscarriaged, trying to connect with some random kid at a fountain and then going into catatonic shock when the reality of stealing somone else's kid not working out sets in. And at the end do we get the reveal that the thirsty woman stole money out of max's boot or am I reading the scene wrong?
