Rape Scene

Did I see that right. At one point do you genuinely see Richard Lynch's erect penis being waved about in Al's face.

I didn't think you were allowed to show that in a film?? And if it is correct I wonder if that was an improv from Lynch's part. Would explain the terror on Al's face!!!

reply

i don't remember seeing that, but who the hell says you can't do that in a film?

you can do whatever you want in a film, for the most part. penises, boobs, etc.

reply

"Erect" penis has always been a taboo in mainstream films

reply

Guys have never been able to deal with ANY dicks in movies, doesnt matter if its hard or not. Look at all the fuss about that watchmen movie, i watched it and there wasnt hardly anything at all. Women have been objectified sexually for so long that its become totally normal, plus they are meant to turn the viewer on most of the time, whereas most of the time if a man is naked the director wont make it so that its some extended scene where the camera views the body, its a brief shot and its done. So ya i guess it is taboo, if youre some 15 year old boy (or have the mentality of one)

reply

His point was that erect penises are taboo in mainstream films, and they are. If you want to see erect penises, go buy some gay porn.

(It's natural to objectify women sexually, not so much men. Even women are generally ambivalent about male nudity. And no, heterosexual men generally don't want to see other guys organs, anuses, etc. Sorry if that bothers you.)

reply

Yes and I said its only "taboo" to straight guys stuck with a teenage mentality, GET IT? Its natural to objectify women? For straight guys maybe. The worlds opinion is the straight white males because thats who runs the world and therefore runs the things people watch and get subjected to, everyone else who isnt white, men, or straight just goes along with the racism, sexism etc. That doesnt mean it should normal and it makes no sense to make women watch other women and then say oh well i dont want to see another guys dick that makes me uncomfortable. If you have one why would you care? Especially when you say it normal to objectify women, I hope youre a troll. Dont worry you dont turn gay from seeing a dick on screen

Are you high? Where do you see any instance of homophobia? Work on those comprehension skills because the entire post is about how being straight is considered normal and being gay isnt. How could that possibly go over your head?

reply

If you stop frame it, you will see that what you are looking at is the thumb on Pacino's left hand. Lynch has his right hand on the back of Pacino's neck, and his left hand is down in his crotch. Pacino has his left hand up to push Lynch's character away from him. You can see the index finger on that hand briefly in the shot also.

reply

I'm pretty sure this is what you saw. I've always thought this was the case since first seeing the movie in the theater when it was new. The 70's had a couple of movies with visible penises. Buster and Billie had a full frontal shot of Jan Michael Vincent.

reply

There are NO erect penis photographed in the rape scene! It is really deceptive, because Pacino thumb is quite long and thick, and seems as it would have cockhead on the end, but it is a finger - absolutely sure!

reply

Is there an unedited version I can get somewhere?

This has got to be the only time a Pacino character is raped in a movie and I'd love to see it as the director intended.

'Get busy living, or get busy dying'

reply

Was he supposed have actually been sodomized? It just looked like attempted sexual assault.

reply

In the movie, 'Lion' says:

"He TRIED to f-ck me, so I had to kick the sh-t out of him... "

... Although the character is pretty badly beaten, if we believe the character, then yes, it was just attempted...

If he was going to mention sexual assault in the first place, then why would he lie about the outcome?

Yes, he was actually raped, though he won't quite admit that to Max. But Max knows instinctively what really happened; that's what snaps him out of his anger at Lion and turns him into a defender. This is the turning point.

reply

Pacino's characters are routinely raped in films, both literally and figuratively. "Sea of Love" is just one example.

reply

[deleted]

Why would Pacino be terrified by an erect penis? He's an obvious homosexual.

reply

I think you meant to reply to someone else.

reply

And what exactly is an obvious" homosexual? Are you an "obvious" heterosexual? Oh, and saying being straight is "natural" and being gay isn't only applies if you're straight. For me, being gay is completely natural cos that's who I've always been. And for me, nothing would be more unnatural than being heterosexual.

You may not see it inside your protected straight bubble, but all of these comments are homophobic to some degree, perhaps due to ignorance about people who aren't exactly like yourself. And straight or gay, rape is a violent crime that has nothing to do with sex or one's sexuality. It's a total violation.

reply

HUH? You might be wishful thinking. He didn't even show his penis much less an erect one.

He didn't even drop his pants.

Interestingly, "Deliverance" was made around the same time. Very obvious rape depicted on-screen there.

And it's not really a tasteless comment given the nature of the OP's question.

This seems to have been a prevailing theme in 1970s films. Wake in Fright with Donald Pleasance has a very obvious M/M scene that stops short of actually showing them doing it. It's pretty disturbing.
