'Hustle' is a companion piece

For years I've loved this movie and the Burt Reynolds movie Hustle (1975). I only just learned that they were written by the same guy! If you are a fan of STT, see Hustle if you haven't.

The themes appeal to me in a melancholy way.

o Reaching middle age and realizing that your generation is being nudged aside by the following generation.

o Fear that your memories of what was "great" and made life worth living isn't appreciated any more. Those things (music, baseball players, etc) are endangered and going extinct (like the Tiger) and you are helpless to stop it. When you try to explain how great it was, people think you're losing your mind.

o You desperately miss your "youth" and the world's an uglier place than it was when you were in your prime.

o Recognition that you are being crushed by weight of your responsibilities and you don't know how that crept up on you.

Death of a Salesman, Glen Gary Glen Ross, Prisoner of 2nd Avenue, Falling Down -- all in the same league.
