Glen Gary Glenn Ross?

Did anyone else get a similar feel? GGGR is a movie about salesmen--jaded, unscrupulous, sleazy salesmen. Shelly and Pete have a lot of overlap in that respect I think. I'm not suggest Mamet pulled his idea from this movie or that they are directly connected in any way. It's just that I was reminded of GGGR several times while watching Save the Tiger.

One could definitely draw a few parallels. GGGR is also a fave of mine.

There are definite parallels.

Both Harry Stoner and Shelley Levine (GlenGary) are down and out, looking to do something sleazy and illegal, and perhaps ridden with guilt - Harry for surviving the war, Shelley in some way for his hospitalized daughter. But Harry seemed more capable of a comeback than Shelley.

Both were excellent films.

I suspect Lemmon may have found the Levine character appealing because he was reminiscent of Harry Stoner.

Quite the diptych.

There are definitely parallels, although Harry Stoner is far from finished, while Levene is about so.

Sadly, neither film did very well at the box office, although Glen Gary is much better remembered - maybe for the Alex Baldwin scene.
