Rarely shown tv film for what reason?

"Savage" (oddly enough Spielberg..is the director) is rarely if ever shown these days. I remember it as being a very good film. Anyone know why it's so neglected?

Just personal speculation here, but it probably comes down to a couple of factors. First it was a pilot for a TV series that didn't happen. Having 100 episodes in the can is the general rule of thumb in order to get a syndication deal. It means that the individual TV stations can run a show five days a week for 20 weeks before starting over. Second, TV movies rarely get any kind of love. Every so often a cable network will dust off a particularly memorable one and show it (i.e. Duel and The Boy in The Plastic Bubble) but by and large the older they are the less frequently they are seen.

There's a preview of sorts here. Watch it while it's still available...

Still, this being Spielberg you would think someone would take the initative and get it on DVD. I'd buy it!
