Strange and beautiful

A "Fitzcarraldo" for the 70's! In that it is intense, strange and beautiful, like a dream.

Not sure about the Fitzcarraldo comparison. Its visual beauty and dreamlike quality remind me more of some Czech New Wave classics. In any case, a treat for the eyes and the mind.

The style of the movie reminds me a lot of Terry Gilliam. Wojciech Has's style in general is pretty simillar to Gilliam's style, maybe a bit darker but the visual language is the same.

It's beautiful, ugly, sad and strange----all in that order, lol. That's typical of most surrealistic, experimental European films of that era---this is just one of the better and more underrated ones.
