Damn right it did! I was only an elementary school kid at the time, and I'll never forget the hybrid snake man in the carnival freak show. Scarred me for life.

One thing though, it was not a "made for TV" movie. I saw it at the drive-in when it came out.

I remember seeing the movie case at our old Blockbuster, the title caught my interest so I turned it over and scanned the back of it. The image of the half man half snake gave me a little bit of a shiver and I had no intention of seeing it ever. Though, I was like 11 or so at the time, and since then I've come to love all kinds of horror based films. I'll look out for it on television.

Scared the living hell out of me. I was 4 yrs old in '73.

reply

I was too young to see it in the theaters when released (in '73, I was about 2 years old), but I did see it on TV.

Scariest part was the half snake-half man freak in the circus. I think there were two versions? One had what appeared to be brown snake scales on his face as he slowly looked up at the camera. Another was when a character snuck in to the Circus when it was closed and found the snake-man in his pen. This snake-mane was light green, kind of pasty, and had his legs fused together in kind of a snake's tail. His arms were just paddles with no hands and he was flapping them against his sides while making this "mmmff mmmff" sound. Apparently he couldn't open his mouth and speak. Yes, that was very Freaky!

It's been a very long time since I've seen this one, so my memories of it are somewhat vague. I also remember Dirk Benedict and his slow transformation into a snake. It was a long time before I connected him to his later characters like "Starbuck" on "Battlestar Galactica" and "Face" on "The A-Team"!

Yep. This one messed with my head when I was a kid. I'm trying to remember all of them...

Movies that seriously *beep* with my head as a young child living in Dallas, Tx. Some were genuinely scary, some just had very strange single scenes enough so to make me get up, turn the tv off, and go get under my covers and hide for dear life. (I wasn't supposed to be up at midnight and I would sneak downstairs, and be watching ktvt's nightmare or ktxa's double shock theater later on... Eventually I would get my @ss beat because there would be an inevitable scream that was too loud and woke my mom and step dad up or I would become so scared I'd cry until I woke them up hiding in the bed and of course received another @ss beating. lol. On a lighter note, there was also always ktvt's sunday afternoon kung fu theater I used to love but I'm drifting off topic...

Twisted Brain(aka Horror High) It's the 70's movie with the cleets and the paper cutter. If you've seen it you know what's up.

The Devil's Rain
Satanic stuff with people melting or something. Been a long @ss time since I've seen this lol.

Holla!
Oh, and to the OP! Dig your Kindertrauma site, Lance! Sounds like many kids were warped and turned into sex perverts, fetishists, and people in general with peculiar tastes for anything involving a scare, a chase, nude scenes with an ominous score, or perhaps just an eerie smile that seems oddly out of place.

lol .. Tourist Trap scared the bejeezus out of me when I was a kid. I found a cheap copy of it about a year ago and loved watching it again. This movie (Sssssss) scared me half to death, also. Just now rewatching it on netflix.

For sure, Tracey!

Those old horror flicks like Sss and Tourist Trapdid a better job of simulating real life bad dream vibes... I have only seen a few decent scary movies recently... Yellow Brick Road, Insidious, Session 9, The Caller, The Pact, and The Awakening are a few... ;)

A pleasure to meet you!
