I have a question.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I would really like to know.

When the guards put the crab in his food bucket, Papillon gets pinched, and angrily tosses the crab away. Why doesn't he eat the crab? That would be some good nourishment.

Great movie, btw!

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.

My guess is the crab was his notice that no more coconuts would be forthcoming. I think he flung it away because he wasn't expecting to get pinched by a critter--reflexes. Been a while since I've seen it, but didn't a guard immediately order him "Prisoner! Show yourself!" to find out who was giving him the coconuts? Papillon didn't have time to scoop up the crab and eat it.
