sad state of affairs

I can't believe some of the comments and debates on this board about this movie. Many of them are from people who don't know or haven't taken the time to discover that Papillon is a true story. The film is an adaptation of the autobiography written by Henri Charriere better known as Papillon. It's a tremendously gripping narrative that I actually read twice and plan to read again, especially after seeing the movie. I did enjoy the film but I recommend the book to anyone who has questions about the movie. Some will be answered but there were certain liberties taken in the screenplay. I hope in the future, tweets won't be the only things people read...

A lot of people have read the book, which by now has been proven to be mostly a work of fiction. Still a good book though.

Right, it's heavily embellished. I always wondered if the lepers and the nun were as he said?

From what I've read Charriere mixed his own prison experiences with stories told to him by fellow inmates. I’m guessing most of it was true, it just didn’t all happen to him.
