Jodie Foster would be much better!

She's 11 then,so it's a perfec role for her

reply

She did the TV series based on the film.

No, I don't think so. The little girl in the movie was perfect.

Same same, rbinger348

Tatum was the perfect choice. As someone else said, Jodie always seemed to be older than her age, and Tatum played Addie as a child with juuuuuuuust enough nouse to be street smart. And, she was a lot cyter than Jodie, imo.

Cheers!

No.

Jodie Foster? She would have shot and killed the sherrif, deputy, and the sherrif's brother when they tried to gang rape her---not because she wanted to, but because she HAD to!!!

reply

ck1-5, what are you talking about "trying to gang rape her". Are we watching the same movie? They actually beat up the father, they didn't try to 'gang rape' the little girl! How perverted.

It's a satirical reference to Jodie Foster's movies; get out once in a while.

I'm sure Jodie Foster would have done the job fine - except she aint got his jaw or nothin'. And Tatum O'Neal seemed perfect to me, one could hardly ask for better when it comes to the part of Addie.

And also, I agree with what some have already said. Jodie Foster is too cold, I'm afraid there wouldn't be much humanity in Addie with Jodie Foster playing that part. Not saying that Jodie Foster is not a good actress, she truly is. I just don't think I'd have enjoyed Paper Moon as much with her in the lead.

Myself, I have never stopped to waste my time blathering on about who would have better in a film. It's just silly mental masturbation. The reason Papermoon is loved and still highly regarded is the perfect casting.Ryan and Tatum are a hoot together, period.

As someone mentioned, Jodie did star in the Tv version. TV Land aired the show a few years ago, and to me, Foster's Addie was a little too mature.

Tatum had the perfect mixture of smarts and sweetness that no one else could have played the role better. Jodie certainly could have played Addie, but she may have been too much of a wise-ass (which, BTW, she did very well in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore). It may have been difficult to warm up to her the way I did with Tatum.

No, I dont believe so. For starters, one of the great things about the movie was knowing that it was real father and daughter. It shouldnt add anything to the movie, though it just made the interaction so much more legit. On the other hand, perhaps it was the relation that actually MADE the interaction better. Jodie Foster, although quite good for her age, I dont think would have fit into this role as well as Tatum did. As others have said as well, she was a bit old for her age.

Additionally, this was one of the better child performances that I have seen. For such a young kid, she sure did express herself timely and deliver the lines naturally. Very good.
