Excellent work by a great cast : we're still waiting...

... for a DVD release. This is among Stanley Kramer's best films and it looks like nobody cares. The cast is excellent, the screenplay is funny and action packed, the set is great. How comes Oklahoma Crude is not (and has never been ) available for home viewing (VHS or DVD)?

Same here! Can't wait for a dvdversion. I got me a copy of the tape on ebay, which was better than nothing.

Far better than There Will Be Blood.

I haven't seen this movie since I was 13 in 1973 but it always has stuck with me. I've been searching my cable TV to see if anyone will be showing it. No one does and that's truly a shame. Scott was a brilliant actor and much of his work seems to have been tossed aside. Funny enough, I was watching an old episode of "Police Story" on TV the other day and the episode ends at a drive in theatre. I got a chuckle when I saw that the movie I've been dying to see was playing at the drive in.

Of course that doesn't really do me or anyone else any good, does it?

No, but it's a good story.

I was sixteen when I saw it, a sweaty youth on a first date. Several scenes made me blush and squirm in the darkness (eg the peeing scene). I think that kind of nostalgia is why I want to see it again - it's a reminder of those glorious Seventies.

I disagree. It's not a very believable story.

Why would Hellman harass the crew before they even struck oil? Also why didn't the old man get any cover from the other two. Hellman's gunmen were all out in the open. Even more stupid, why didn't they fix the rig at night when the old man would be less visible and there would be fewer guards on duty.

... but I'm watching it again soon because of the cast only!

I watched it again over a two-day period, probably for the last time. I realized it just doesn't have that enduring quality. With some loose ends, I might be up for a sequel, but I doubt if one will ever be made.

I just happened to catch about the last half of this movie on one of the air broadcast network channels, and it was pretty good, but did have censorship on the language, and probably run time cuts. (Memorable Entertainment TV, a.k.a. MeTV.com I believe.)

BTW, were the rich guy's riflemen in the bowler hats "Pinkertons"?
(From the Pinkerton Detective Agency (read that as hired thugs) and the agency was often used as union and strike breakers. At one point in coal mining, there was such a battle between the miners/union and the Pinkertons, the state governor had to call out the military to just separate the two "warring" factions (there were even military machine guns reportedly used by the Pinkertons). The Discovery Channel did a special on that, and pointed out there was very little local co-operation for the story, even after about 75 years has passed. The film crews were blocked from even visiting the location of the massive fire-fight between the two groups, (they mentioned looking for artifacts, like ammunition and used bullets).
