Acute influence upon Taxi driver?

Sequence with Connery driving home. Exactly like Taxi Driver. washed up colours on windscreen, same tonality to the music, psychotic thoughts etc. Mental breakdown due to the relenting bleakness of their lives etc...

Interesting to compare, The Offence was made four years earlier.

Do I win £5?

Good point and yes you win a fiver.

That exactly what I thought of when I watched that scene. So yes you win a fiver....

Nope Scorsese said this was taken from a Powell and Pressburger film called The Small Back Room.

No five pounds for you.

I think the major element you missed is the conflicted pedophilic thoughts and wounded masculinity of the protagonists in both films.

The two films make a great double bill.

reply

Not for me, they don't. They have utterly different dynamics and they are completely different films. It beggars belief that people would see an influence of one upon the other.
