Birtwistle's music

This is the only film with a score by Sir Harrison Birtwistle, and very powerful and effective it is. However, does anyone know why he didn't write more film scores? Was it his own choice or film-makers? If the latter, was it because he was associated with the "disaster" of The Offence or because no-one else dared commission a similar score?
