The piece of jewelry...

In one scene, Jacqueline Bissets slips a box into her husband's pocket. Later, on his way to the airport, her husband opens the box and finds something that seems to be a piece of jewelry.

I was waiting for some explanation about this detail, but I can't remember if there was any further mention of it.
