Anyone else find this incredibly boring?

I used to like Truffault - Jules and Jim, the 400 Blows. As someone else said, there's no plot to this. Who cares about a film about making a film. I'm really surprised this is rated so highly. I quit after an hour.

I saw it today and really liked it. 8/10. But yeah, it's kind of tedious. Truffaut's direction is exquisite and beautifully detailed. But the storyline is thin, and the script makes the predictable plot twists all the more obvious. You're also kept at arms-length from the characters, to the point of the plot twists being mind-numbing and nothing more. I've definitely seen more interesting films with the same "Grand Hotel"-like theme of "nothing ever happens" -- the problem in Day for Night is that you never doubt that!

As for the performances, they were all fine, though the only real standout was Valentina Cortese. And though she was terrific, I think she's been overhyped. She did a fine job in the film's most entertaining scenes, as the film's most vibrant character, but it was nothing stunning nor terribly difficult. Forgetting her illustrious career before her, Ingrid Bergman's performance in "Murder on the Orient Express" had greater nuance and impact, and for what it's worth, she easily could have played Cortese's role.

I watched it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. 9/10. I appreciated the insight into the potential problems and issues that come up making a movie. Since I've never seen a movie made I'm assuming that Truffaut gave us a realistic view of this. It held my interest for the entire film.

I watched it today and was actually surprised by how entertaining it was, I was expecting it to be boring....unfortunately it did drag in maybe the last ten minutes or so though.
Still, I thought the film was quite good and actually quite original. There's something very odd about it that I just can't place, but I must say whatever it was worked very well.

I think it's very funny.

The OP appears to find most movies 'incredibly boring.'

As the old saying goes, 'Only boring people get bored.'

I am a huge fan of many Traffaut films...

I had trouble getting into this movie in the beginning. About 1/2 hour in, I was somewhat bored of the movie. I turned it off, did some chores & afterwards went back to the movie.
As the movie progressed, I was able to get into the movie & it turned out to be a solid movie, but not close to a favorite of his.

I believe it may be because it took time for me to get into the complexity of the characters and the many different sub-plots going on. It feels like a movie I probably will enjoy more the second time viewing it.

But, anyone who quits a movie in the middle - has no validity in judging it
