Why

is this thing so highly thought of? It is pure 70's tv schlock from a usually competent Dan Curtis. The story was nothing original, the beast was cheap and funny looking (gray face, but hands were normal colored), and as for the denouement, how does blood burn? Ludicrous rubbish.

Yes, this was schlock, but I like schlock - sometimes. I guess it reminds me of the type of movies I watched when I was young (in the '50s). For example, I love to watch re-runs of the original "Night Stalker", but always thought "Dark Shadows" was stupid.

However, I accept that other people don't agree. Different people like different things.

[Just because you said so doesn't make it true - the opposite applies to me, of course]

There's been a great deal of schlock I love, but this didn't do it for me. I enjoyed "Dark Shadows" but then I like vampire schtick, but not of the Twilight variety. Yeah, I grew up back in them days, too and 50's junk rules. You ought to come over to the "Adventures of Superman" and read the stuff there. A bunch of us boomers go at it big time and always glad to have another to join in the sillness! Come on by; yer invited.

This is probably one of the nicest, most grown-up threads on IMDB. When I saw the OP I thought it would start a fight. It didn't - it spawned an invite to Adventures of Superman. Nice going guys/gals! More internet users should be like this. Actually, I'd like all users to be this way, but that's just silly wishful thinking. Oh, and by the way, I think this movie was schlock too but I loved it! Not as good as the two with Darren McGavin, but along the same lines and very enjoyable. I have it on DVD and watch it occasionally. I love 50s/60s stuff too. One of the best opening 20 minutes of any movie is "Them" - that is just masterful stuff.
