amazing isn't it?

especially those eerie similar scenes of the oil refinery's going up in flames seem taken from this recent disaster...and as of this writing theyr'e talking nuclear meltdown and mass evacuations...

sadly to an extent life does seem to imitate art

And references to Godzilla/Gamera/Ghidorah movies would not be frivolous; it's the Japanese using popular culture to rehearse their own responses to potential horrific catastrophe. And with the more child-oriented entries in the Godzilla series, kids are exposed to the force-of-nature destructive power of an unstoppable strength within a safe context.
Meanwhile, one's prayers go out to the Japanese, and practical financial donations too.

Yes, I also think the recent events surrounding the current nuclear crisis cement the Godzilla films as one of the most important aspects of Japan's post-WWII narrative. Even Godzilla vs. Destroyah seems more relevant now than what the filmmakers might have anticipated in 1995 due to the threat of meltdown. He may have become a more "likable" "anti-hero" character as the series throttled on, but he never lost his symbolic edge as an unstoppable force of nature merged with the Japanese trauma of nuclear fallout.
