I've been confused about this for decades. By all accounts the film was released in 1973. Yet I know I saw it in 1975 in the theater when my parents took me, much to my absolute terror. I hid my eyes in my step father,s shoulder for much of the film! Depending on what month that would have been, I was either 8 or 9. It was a theater in Arizona, so was there some sort of American really release since it was a British film? Possibly so.

I saw this in a La Jolla theater in 1973, but back then theatrical re-releases were common even years after the original debut. This film wasn’t a big hit, so it wouldn’t have been re-released on its own. Did you see it with another flick? Double bills were the rule in the 70’s, especially for re-released titles. There’s nothing unlikely about seeing it in a theater in 1975.
This is definitely a 1973 release as you confirm. It was first released in the US in August 1973 and in the UK a month later. I didn't know that re-releases went onto double bills. I wonder what this one got released with?
